| Creating
a web page should be a learning experience for the creator. While GLWS staff can from time
to time push you in the right direction by providing links to information, we cannot
assist in designing a page for you (without charging for consulting time of course). There
are an endless number of beginner HTML books available, and it is highly recommended that
you purchase one from your local bookstore if you want to get a better understanding of
HTML. We also provide FrontPage 98 and FrontPage 2000 Support. If you have any questions concerning functionality please give us a call and we'll be more than happy to help. There are many HTML programs available that can help beginners and novices alike generate HTML pages. A large selection of these programs are available from winfiles.com, TUCOWS, ZiffDavid Net and Microsoft. Here is a link that can help get you started with HTML: A few pointers when creating HTML pages for use with GLWS:

| How you
upload your pages will depend on which option you picked during signup. With FrontPage it's a simple matter of Selecting your web server from a list.
To upload your pages
to a GLWS web server with FTP you will need do download a File Transfer
Protocol (FTP) program. You can find links to FTP programs in our
software section. Once you have
your FTP program, you'll need to configure it to connect to the GLWS
FTP Server: Hostname: ftp.glws.net After you've provided this information to the FTP program, hit the "Connect" button. This will connect you to the FTP server (providing that you are already dialed into GLWS). Upon logging into the FTP server, you will see files and directories appear in the right hand side of your FTP program. These files and directories are on the remote (GLWS) side. Files and directories appearing on the left hand side are on the local (YOUR) side. On the remote server side, you will see files within your home directory. If you see a directory listed as wwwroot, you will need to change into it. If you do not see this directory, you will need to create it. Most FTP programs have a mkdir or make directory button. You will need to find this and create the directory called wwwdocs. Once you've changed into the wwwroot directory, you are now ready to upload your html and graphic files to the server. On your local computer, change to the directory within the FTP program to where your html and graphic files are stored. Select the files (hold down your CTRL key to select multiple files), and then select Transfer (Mac users will select Put File). After your pages have been uploaded, you can view them at your domain name or assigned
ip address. If you are not sure of what either of these are please call 616-349-6203 and a
support rep will assist you. |
